Context:

TheDirection de la Création (theCreative Department) comprises in-house and freelance talent, who work together to create and produce proprietary communication tools to excite and surprise Hermès audiences around the world.

Within the Direction de la Création, the Direction Achat dArt des Mots (the Editorial Department) is looking to strengthen its expertise by recruiting an Acheteur.se dArt des Mots (Editorial Assistant) who is bilingual in English and French (creation of a new role.)

The Acheteur.se dArt des Mots (Editorial Assistant) will report to the Directrice dAchat dArt des Mots. He/she will be responsible for the relevance and quality of the texts entrusted to them. He/she will be responsible for both the style and content and will ensure that texts conform to the houses tone and image and will bring a critical eye and a positive yet constructive spirit to all of Hermès texts.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Creation of a library of anglophone authors who could work with Hermès:
  • Remaining up to date with and constantly searching new English-speaking writers: novelists, journalists, copywriters, translators.
  • Proactive proposal of the most suitable, appropriate English-speaking writers for each project that the team works on.
  • Briefing the writer, negotiation of salary, creation of purchase order.
  • Oversee all of Hermès texts in English
  • English copywriter for print, digital, audio and social media: meticulously proofread texts, make corrections both to the form and style and check texts once they have been put into their final layout.
  • Final proofreading of translations both in English and French done by external translators or by other colleagues within the communication department.
  • Translation from French into English and English into French (titles, baselines, short texts etc.)
  • Writing and rewording of texts in English (titles, baselines, short texts etc.)
  • Monitoring projects in tandem with a variety of colleagues both internal (artistic direction, project managers) and external (authors, freelance workers.)
  • Alongside the Directrice dAchat dArt des Mots, you will work with an intern and a team of freelance copywriters.
  • Candidate Profile:

  • Previous experience working in communications, publishing or another creative industry in an English-speaking country.
  • Previous experience as a copywriter in English.
  • Must be fluent in both French and English: native English speaker who can use both American and British English.
  • Fluent in French to allow an in-depth understanding of texts and of tone and to enable ease of day-to day communication with both in-house and freelance co-workers.
  • Strong literary and artistic knowledge: interest in words and language.
  • Strong organisation skills and ability to work simultaneously on various projects.
  • Ability to take on responsibility.
  • Adaptable, flexible, available.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and team spirit.
